Please tell us briefly about your interest in transformative learning
I am a former teacher who taught English, social studies, and drama in Japan (2002-2003), the United States (2004-2007), and Sweden (2007-2009). I returned to academia to earn masters degrees in global studies (2011) and in educational research (2013). I am currently earning a PhD in peace and development studies where I analyze teachers' understandings of nonviolent classroom conflicts or conflicts that have not yet progressed to the point where they must be formerly reported. I hope that transformative learning and those engaged with it will offer new inroads into the ways in which the inevitable misunderstandings, disagreements, and social incompatibilities experienced by educational actors can be co-opted as opportunities for learning and development.
