Profile Information

Please tell us briefly about your interest in transformative learning
I have 15 years experience teaching graduate and undergraduate environmental studies, sustainability, and transformative leadership, primarily with Lesley University. My research and teaching integrates human interiors (values, worldviews, identity, and culture) and exteriors (behavior and systems) towards cultivating transformative social and ecological change agents and educators. I presently teach for Antioch University Seattle, Prescott College, and Pacific Integral's Generating Transformative Change leadership development program.

My doctoral research focused on the application of constructive development theory to transformative teaching and mentorship. My mixed methods study examined the personal, professional impacts of introducing a constructive developmental framework to faculty and students in a post secondary program in sustainability education. Participants explored the developmental framework and its application to teaching and mentorship, by developing literacy, engaging in collaborative action inquiry, and learning about their own development through the use of a developmental assessment and coaching. The findings demonstrate that learning about adult development (including one’s own) supports increased self-awareness and self-knowledge, understanding and compassion for others, and skill development for working transformatively with a diversity of students.

I am interested in the ways that constructive development theory can support educators to meet student where they are in their own development and learning needs, and paradoxically support the students' transformation. In other words not trying to transform another, but supporting another's transformation.
