HOUSING

There are certainly many housing choices throughout the greater Tacoma area. While the conference site of Pacific Lutheran University is 10 miles from downtown, we have opted to block rooms at three downtown Tacoma Hotels. The museums, restaurants and other aspects of Tacoma life are best accessed from the main downtown area. Complimentary shuttles will be provided to get you to and from the conference.

Please book your hotel reservation early. If the blocks fill and rooms are available then you can be added to the block. Please contact the hotels directly online or by phone. Block codes should be “International Transformative Learning Conference 2016”, “ITLC 2016” or just “ITLC”.

All three hotels are walking distance to great restaurants, museums and the Tacoma Link – the light rail that runs the length of the downtown corridor.  As mentioned, we will provide free van shuttles to and from these three hotels to campus for each day of the conference.

TRANSPORTATION

Getting to Tacoma, Flights.

Sea-Tac (Seattle-Tacoma) International Airport is a major international airport on the west coast of the United States. Sea-Tac is located half-way between Seattle and Tacoma.

Alaska Airlines is our favorite domestic airline and often provides the best rates for direct flights from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

As an international airport most international carriers arrive in SeaTac offering direct flights from places like London, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Athens, Dubai, and more.

Getting to your hotel or to campus.

Depending on your arrival date and time, you might go from the airport to your hotel or to campus. Do NOT take a taxicab!!!!

Depending on the time of day and traffic, the drive from the airport to the downtown hotels is about 30 minutes and 40 minutes to campus.

Though there are several shuttle options from the airport to the Tacoma area, Shuttle Express is what most people prefer: http://shuttleexpress.com/seattle-seatac-airport-transportation/

They offer both Vans Shuttles and towncars. If you are traveling in a group to one destination, then a Shuttle Express towncar is most efficient and economical. As you leave the airport, use a pedestrian bridge to cross to the airport garage. Passengers are picked up at the inner drive curb on the third floor of the airport garage. You can make your reservation on site or in advance.

Getting to/from hotel to campus.

Van Shuttles: We are providing complimentary shuttles to and from the three downtown hotels and campus. We will have a morning and evening schedule.

Car. If you wish to rent or bring your own car, we will provide driving and parking directions for your convenience. Parking is free. We will also help participants ride share with those with vehicles who are willing to carpool.

Public Transportation. Tacoma and Pierce County does provide public transit, predominantly by bus. The PLU campus has a main terminal just five blocks from the main conference building. However, the system is time consuming and the bus schedule limited.
